Confluence Performance Project
Mission Statement
In geography, a confluence is the point where two or more tributaries or streams meet, to become the source of a river with a new name. In Confluence Performance Project, the word references this meaning: as the flow of water is a conductor of energy, so too is performance, bringing people together to create something larger, that could not have existed without their presence. Confluence Performance Project believes in the transformative power of performance, as it calls on the presence of the moment, and asks performer and audience to join forces in that moment to share in the magic of opening the mind, body and soul through the medium of time-base art.
Started by artistic director Brianna Taylor in January 2014, the project seeks to bring together artists from a variety of mediums and movement forms. Confluence is based in movement… tuning into the body as its primary medium, it expresses itself through dance, song, spoken word, music, video and art installation. We work in both traditional performance venues and site-specific environments, inspired by the prospect of finding art unfolding in the everyday.
